Less than one day after receiving his release from Texas Tech, sophomore wide receiver Jonathan Giles tweeted out a Top 10 list of schools he is considering transferring to, and the Buckeyes made the cut.

The list consisted of Ohio State, Florida State, LSU, Louisville, Georgia, Wisconsin, Tennessee, Purdue, SMU, and Oregon.

As a true junior, Giles would have to sit out the 2017 season, but would then have two years of eligibility remaining.

Last year as a sophomore for the Red Raiders, he led the team in receptions (69), yards (1,158), and touchdowns (13). In back-to-back games against Louisiana Tech and Kansas, Giles had six receptions for 186 yards and three touchdowns, followed by 12 receptions for 219 yards and two touchdowns.

Giles played in all 12 games for Texas Tech last season, starting seven times. He had four games of over 100 yards receiving, including a 10-reception, 167-yard outing against Oklahoma, in which he also caught a pair of touchdowns. Giles was an inside receiver for the Red Raiders and would likely project into the slot at OSU as well.

A 3-star recruit out of high school, Giles chose Texas Tech over Missouri, Maryland, and Houston. He was a quarterback as a prep, and threw for 2,196 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior, while also rushing for 758 yards and 15 touchdowns. He attended Fort Bend Elkins High School, in Missouri City, Texas.

The Buckeyes have not had a 1,000-yard receiver since Michael Jenkins in 2002.

From the information that Ohio State has provided to this point, OSU doesn't currently have room to add another scholarship player. That is unlikely to stay the case over the next month, however, as attrition is normal after spring football is over.

Here are highlights of Giles in action last year for the Red Raiders.
