Big Ten Divisions Announced

By John Porentas

Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney has announced the divisional alignments for the 2011 season when Nebraska begins league play and the conference goes to divisional competition

Ohio State has been placed in a division - yet unnamed - which includes OSU, Illinois, Indiana, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin.

The other division includes Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska and Northwestern.

The schedule will be such that the teams within a division will play each other every season. Additionally, each school will have a protected rivalry game. For Ohio State, that game is Michigan. The Buckeyes and Wolverines will play in the last game of the season as a protected rivalry.

Other protected rivalries include Penn State vs. Nebraska, Illinois vs. Northwestern, Minnesota vs. Wisconsin, Iowa vs. Purdue and Indiana vs. Michigan State.

Each school will also play two cross-divisional games each season with the opponents in those games rotating. In 2011, Ohio State's crossover opponents will be Nebraska and Michigan State.

The-Ozone will have further reports as infomation develops.
