OSU AD Smith Responds to Allegations of Meyer Wrongdoings in Recruiting
By John Porentas
The war of words over Urban Meyer's recruiting tactics is ramping up, as in up the ladder.
Meyer has recently been publically criticized by Wisconsin Head Coach Brent Bielma and Michigan State Head Coach Mark Dantonio for his recruiting tactics.
Today, speaking to The Ohio High School Football Coaches Association, Meyer responded to some of those criticisms.
Now, the issue has moved up the ladder. Ohio State Director of Athletics Gene Smith has also responded to the allegations with the following statement.
“I am disappointed that negative references have been made about our football coaches, and particularly head coach Urban Meyer regarding recruiting.
"In our league appropriate protocol, if you have concerns, is to share those concerns with your Athletic Director (AD). Then your AD will make the determination on the appropriate communication from that point forward.
"The ADs in our league are professionals and communicate with each other extremely well. Urban Meyer and his staff have had a compliance conscience since they have arrived.”
Ohio State is currently on NCAA probation for non-recruiting related violations in the Jim Tressel era.
